The Human Race …

… is the only species on Earth with the ability to halt its own evolution.

Anything that is perceived as ‘different’ can be used as a basis for discrimination and often persecution. The colour of a person’s skin, his or her religion, a physical trait, a disability or a person’s sexuality … all are used as reasons for hate and violence.

So, what if the evolution of the species led to some people developing advanced mental powers? Telepathy has long been mooted as a possibility, Stage acts have been constructed around so-called ‘mind-reading’.

And what if a person could affect others by making them feel his or her emotions? Ever been in a room where you felt an ‘atmosphere’ even though nobody said anything? Of course you have.

And what about mothers who sense that their babies are in difficulty even tough there has been no sound? Few would try to deny that close bonds are there.

‘Sense of Silence’ is a book that starts to explore these issues. In our intolerant societies, could someone with such special powers actually survive, let alone be accepted?
